MASTERCLASS DESCRIPTION:
Amanda Richards, VP of Sony Pictures Television, pulls back the curtain on the professional casting process from a production perspective - from hiring a casting director through to the final table read.
This masterclass is designed to help editors, cinematographers, producers and directors, understand how casting works and where decisions are really made. A vital phase of production, casting can mean the difference between a project moving forward or stalling out.
The session and Q&A covers the core fundamentals of casting for film and television, including submissions, auditions, producer sessions, test deals, and booking decisions. Amanda will focus on how creative and business considerations intersect throughout casting, offering insight into how producers and directors can collaborate effectively with casting directors and make informed casting choices.

About Amanda Richards
As Vice President of Talent & Casting at Sony Pictures Television’s (SPT) U.S. scripted studio, Amanda Richards oversees casting for series in the YA ensembles, fantasy, and comic book genres, including “The Wheel of Time”, “The Boys”, “The Boys” spinoff “Gen V,” and “Boots.” In addition to taking the lead on casting several hit SPT ensemble series, Richards was instrumental in launching the studio’s Diverse Actors Showcase, which is currently in its third year.
In addition to her role at SPT, Richards teaches the first-ever course on “The Fundamentals of Acting” at her alma mater, Emerson College, where she received a BA in Theatre and Marketing, prior to earning her MA in Creative Business and Leadership from the Savannah College of Art and Design. In 2022, Amanda was featured on Business Insider’s inaugural “Rising Stars of the Entertainment Business”.
