About us
Does this sound familiar: you're struggling to connect with other indie filmmakers; you don't know where to meet them; you keep hearing Vancouver is a service town; you seek ways to get your projects made; or you're just new to the city?
Filmable is a grassroots community building initiative created as a solution to these overwhelmingly common barriers that affect us all. BC is bursting with creative talent and we need to work together to breakdown these barriers, make more friends, and collectively build a local industry we can thrive in.
Filmable is run by a group of filmmakers who share the same vision for the immense potential of our community. We’ve built it from the ground up, in an iterative process, responding to the input of the community and co-creating an organization that, we hope, is truly helpful.
Step 1: get people together without pressure. We are hosting consistent get togethers, happy hours, awkward parties, and casual hangs to foster more connectedness in our community.
Step 2: create learning opportunities through panels and workshops. We polled the community, partnered with film festivals, impact organizations and production companies to create a programs that encapsulates the demand.
Step 3: map our community. We are working with film festivals, government agencies, and advocacy groups to asset map the independent film scene in BC. With that knowledge, we will be able to glean stronger insights into where we are headed as a group, and where our collective voice should be heard the loudest. Interested in lending your voice? Step 4: make more movies? Jk, we haven't figured that part out yet. But we have a sneaky feeling that through coming together, focusing on overcoming the common barriers, building bridges of collaboration and moving towards a shared vision of our wonderful industry, the answer will reveal itself. What say you?
