Can an indie BC short film vie for acclaim at the highest contest in our industry? The short answer is… why not try? The team behind One Day This Kid (2024) is announcing the launch of their For Your Consideration campaign for the Best Live Action Short Film.
Directed by Alexander Farah, produced by Joaquín Cardoner, shot by Farhad Ghaderi, and with production design by Adriana Marchand, the film is a co-production between Vancouver-based companies Boldly and Wallop.
Since premiering at TIFF in 2024, the film has gone on to win the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW and was recently awarded the 2025 Iris Prize. With 20 Festival Awards and 60+ selections, including AFI Fest, Hollyshorts, Slamdance, Palm Springs, Galway Film Fleadh, Blackstar, SCAD, and Torino film festivals, the critical acclaim for the film is undeniable.
Notably, One Day This Kid was one of six films curated by legendary actor, Andrew Scott (Fleabag, All Of Us Strangers), as part of the "unhidden" gems cohort at SXSW, in partnership with Redbreast Irish Whiskey. Watch Mr. Scott speak about the film, here.
This campaign marks an exciting moment to spotlight the creative strength of our local community on the world stage. We encourage everyone to follow @one_day_this_kid_film, spread the word, and help champion BC storytelling. Supporting projects like One Day This Kid reminds the world just how much talent thrives right here at home.
For AMPAS voters, One Day This Kid is now available to watch in the Academy Screening Room. For everyone else, the film is available to stream on Crave (in Canada), and soon-to-be The Criterion Channel.
